Andamiro Guittae Museum Special Exhibition “Masterpieces and Teatime: A Moment of Leisure with Tea, Light, and Color”
June 26, 2026 - September 30, 2026Overview
At the Andamiro Guittae Museum, this exhibition introduces the shining teapots and teacups captured in masterpieces, along with the warm vitality of everyday life embodied within them. In the late 15th century, the sea routes of the Age of Discovery, launched in search of spices, carried not only the mysterious tea leaves of the East to Europe but also the refined aesthetics of the vessels created to hold them. Artists of the time began to capture on canvas, in dazzling colors, the vibrant warmth flowing through a warm teacup and the joyful moments of teatime. Going beyond the landscapes depicted on canvas, this exhibition offers a special opportunity to encounter in person the teapots and teacups held by the subjects in the paintings. From the mysterious warmth conveyed by William McGregor Paxton’s “Tea Leaves” to the splendid silver teapot featured in Mary Cassatt’s “The Tea,” visitors are invited to experience vividly, with a sense of being there, the leisure of a cup of tea felt by the figures in these masterpieces.
