Ganggyeong National Heritage Night Tour
August 28, 2026 - September 5, 2026Overview
The Ganggyeong National Heritage Night Tour aims to move beyond the conventional focus on preservation and actively utilize historical and cultural resources while broadening their public value. By establishing a network connecting the modern historical resources scattered throughout Ganggyeong, the event encourages visitors to experience the entire town as one vast historical and cultural space. The event features a total of 30 programs under eight themes: Night Scenery, Night Road, Night History, Night Painting, Night Performance, Night Food, Night Market, and Night Stay. First, Night Scenery and Night Road use landscape lighting and media art to create nighttime views of Ganggyeong’s Modern History and Culture Street, significantly improving both physical and psychological access to its historical and cultural resources. As visitors stroll along the roads at night, they naturally become immersed in these historic spaces. Night History, Night Painting, and Night Performance reinterpret Ganggyeong’s historical narratives and the value of its modern heritage through contemporary performances, exhibitions, and hands-on experiences. By conveying the value of national heritage through intuitive and engaging content, these programs make history more accessible to the public and help spread its significance. Finally, Night Food, Night Market, and Night Stay are operated in collaboration with local businesses and residents. By connecting Ganggyeong’s specialty products and food with local shops, the programs encourage visitors to stay longer and complete a virtuous cycle in which networking the scattered historical resources contributes to the revitalization of the local economy. Ultimately, the eight night themes and 30 programs are expected to serve as a driving force that breathes contemporary vitality into Ganggyeong’s national heritage, which had remained rooted in the past, while offering visitors a distinctive nighttime cultural heritage experience.
